About Us

We currently care for a maximum of 32 children during a session offering sessional or full day care, during term time.

Topsie Rabbit and the EYFS
Topsie Rabbit covers all 7 areas of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) through active learning and play. Each child has an on-line Learning Journal via Tapestry which enables parents to see what their child is doing regularly via the Tapestry App or on line. Parents are encouraged to add and comment on the Tapestry site as often as they can. Parents receive a written report/summary and we hold parents evenings every term. Parents are able to make additional appointments to speak to the Manager or Key Person at anytime throughout their time at Topsie Rabbit. The term before school is a transition meeting. ECaT (Every Child a Talker), DLS (Derbyshire Language Scheme), Letters and Sounds, Peic’d (Promoting Early Interactive Conversations – Dorset) and Narrative Language support is offered throughout. Activities include messy play (very messy!), sand, water, arts and crafts, natural and malleable materials, cooking, visits to the Town Meadow especially to tend to our planters and run, to name a few.

There are ICT areas with tablets, beebot, remote controls, a quiet area with books, sleeping area, separate food room (for snacks, lunch and cooking), role play, music, DMP (developmental movement play), targeted learning room for circle time (phonics etc) and a wide variety of table top and floor equipment. Children’s learning is extended through visiting local places of interest such as the Museum, Library, St Mary’s Church, Town Hall and Shops. We also have visits from the Police, Fire Brigade (with engine), Dentist, Revd Eve Pegler/Revd Peter Greenwood, Refuse Collectors, Vets and Dentist. We welcome parental involvement and offer stay and play, home targets, home links, WOW’s, plus much more.

Key Person
You will be allocated a Key Person at the start of your child’s time at Topsie Rabbit. This person is your first point of contact. Sometimes your child makes a connection with another staff member, in this case your Key Person may be changed.

Speaking to Staff
Staff are available to have short discussions with you, though it is difficult to speak to all on drop off/collection as staff are watching the safety of children entering/leaving. If you need longer this can be arranged, the Manager or Deputy are usually available at all times.

Topsie Rabbit staff are highly qualified in Early Years and attend regular training to keep up to date with Statutory Requirements. All staff are DBS enhanced checked, have annual suitability to work with children checks and have Paediatric First Aid training, most have Food Hygiene qualification level 2. Staff will attend further medical training if required for your child to attend safely.
